“Shortly after I joined the academy, I began heavily interviewing for my next role. The goal of Lit Up Leadership Academy is to ensure coaching sessions really focus on coaching with some mentoring thrown in when appropriate, but the necessary learning is done at your own pace.

Toni meets every member of the Academy when they first join to find out what their goals are and to identify whether the program is a good fit for you. We then spend time matching you with a coach based on what she’s identified and also based on when you’ll be available for calls. We take this extremely seriously as we know having a good coaching relationship is key to your success. If at any time your coach isn’t working for you our team is here to help you find an alternative coach.

No! In fact Toni firmly believes that the world of tech would benefit if more team members were trained in leadership before they need those skills! It is actually harder to re-train someone who has ‘figured it out’ incorrectly by being a manager without having the training. And you’ll be in good company – Toni has trained and coached many brilliant executives and CEOs, so that they can step into even more greatness!

You will get immediate access to the Start here module. Other training will unlock as you complete specific trainings to ensure you complete all necessary  pre-requisites. We do this to protect your time, attention and focus while sparing you from the intense overwhelm that stops most would-be great leaders in their tracks, and stops them from stepping into their true greatness. Each module is designed to provide actions to embed in your day-to-day job, but to complete a module you should expect to spend about 4 hours per module to get through all of the materials. However, you are a member of the program for as long as you choose to be. Sometimes embedding results takes time and support, which is what the Academy is all about. 

The training is organized around a 12 month syllabus, which is why you get 12 months access to all the training material and group coaching. However, you can take as long or as little time as you want on each set of materials.

We’re not going to lie: to get the big wins isn’t some quick scheme. It takes time, practice, and yes, some leadership push-ups along the way! But Lit Up Leadership Academy is setup to give you some quick wins early on. Toni has carefully structured the program so that each step makes the next one easier. We’ve packaged this program to give you exactly what you need to get the results we know you are capable of. After coaching hundreds of women we’ve found that often 6 months of 1:1 is all that is needed to give you the core self-coaching skills to make great use of the group coaching sessions alone. We do require the first 6 months of 1:1 as we know that makes a difference, which is why it is included in your initial membership. If at the end of 6 months you would like to continue 1:1 coaching, or have the occassional additional session you will be given the opportunity to do so — it definitely helps you move faster! However, we don’t believe it is necessary for your success, it just provides a little more support.

At the end of your 12 months you’ll be given the opportunity to continue in the program on a month-by-month basis — indeed many of our members do this as they find the ongoing support invaluable. Creating a good impression not only requires knowing what to talk about, but also knowing how to deliver it and to be able to adapt the answers to what specifically the interviewer is trying to assess. LULA has been a key partner in my interview preparation efforts, providing me with a question bank, async coaching via slack, reviewing my answers, and helping me improve my delivery. Toni encourages mock interviews with other job seekers, which is an excellent way to prepare for the real thing. In the environment of an economic downturn, I found that I needed to nail every aspect of every interview to land offers, and LULA helped me uplevel myself and be in a position to consider a handful of offers.

With the career planning aspect of my job search, LULA has been an invaluable resource. The workshops and exercises helped me to think through my short-term and long-term career goals, what I care about, and what motivates me. Toni also helped me navigate conversations with potential employers regarding my personal circumstances. Most critically, Toni helped me analyze different opportunities and provided a balanced perspective on failed interviews, whether it was something I could have done better at or it was that the company wasn't a good fit for me. Job searching can be an emotional rollercoaster, but Toni and the LULA community were very supportive during the process, cheering me on as I went through failed moments and making sure to celebrate the wins. Overall, I went through the job search with a lot more confidence and landed a great role with LULA's help.

Women in tech deserve better.

The human race deserves better.

And women need to be part of the solution to driving the world of tech to make better technology for the entirety of the human race.

It’s that simple.

And yet, sadly, far too many tech workplaces don’t provide women with the tools they need to thrive. Even worse, more workplaces than I would like, still enable toxic behavior, which more often than not, the underrepresented groups (including women) bear the brunt of.

I’m on a mission to change that.

I have seen that when more women rise to the top, truly extraordinary things happen. The company as a whole makes better decisions. There is more innovation and ideation. Retention improves. Productivity skyrockets. All with less burnout and less stress (and often coupled with a reduction in working hours).

This isn’t some daydream. I’ve seen this happen time and time again.

I used to focus on the ‘women in tech’ problem, because I just fundamentally believed we had a right as women to have a seat, drive technology and not get pushed out. But this goes far far deeper. The human race needs women in tech. And even more than that – women in tech are needed in leadership now more than ever.

Progress on improving the representation of women in tech, particularly in tech leadership has been slower than I would have liked (I still remain a steadfast optimist though). But there has truly never been a better time to
demonstrate great leadership and help the people around you who are desperately seeking stability, motivation, solutions and empathy that YOU have so that together you can all change the world.

As a woman’s leadership expert, and the only person I know of creating a program specifically for women in tech leadership, I want you to know you aren’t alone. I’ve been where you were, but I made it to the executive team. I struggled with impostor syndrome, while leading a global team. Today, I’ve dealt with my lack of confidence, developed my leadership and strategic thinking skills, my communication and ability to inspire even the most skeptical of fellow techies. That’s possible for you too. 

You might think only those with MBAs, the techiest people, or the most extroverted can get to the Executive Team. The truth: the best leaders have breadth, not depth. The best leaders surround themselves with technical superstars so that they can focus on being the link that brings it altogether. The best leaders focus on communication first. The best leaders invest in their leadership skills instead of waiting for it to just turn up one day. 

There is room for you at the table my friend, so what are you waiting for? Slide on in and commit to creating a thriving leadership career that has you excited about Monday mornings, and able to choose from multiple offers every time you are ready for a new challenge, all while getting off the 70 hrs+/week struggle bus that isn’t actually serving you or your organization (even though it feels like it is).
